Being a part of a volunteer fire department is a great benefit to your community. Right now, the Marcellus Fire Department needs new members to help strengthen our ranks and provide the best protection possible to the area. Many positions are available, and training is provided for you by the State of New york.
Here are a few requirements for joining the department:
- You must be at least 16 years of age to join our Restricted Firefighter group. When you turn 18, you will granted the responsibilities of a regular firefighter. More info can be found below.
- You must pass a physical performed by a local physician.
- You should be able to respond regularly to alarms.
- You should be able to attend the regular meetings and drills held on Tuesday nights.
Positions Available:
Active Fire Personnel:
Responds to alarms, assists with tasks at the fire station including fundraisers, pancake breakfasts, parades, etc. Undergoes training provided by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. Minimum training level: Firefighter One. Other training oppurtunities are available as well, including: Fire Police, Truck/Engine Drivers, Rescue Technicians including Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics, and much more!
Active Fire Personnel Restrcted Class:
Responds to alarms as an assistant to regular fire personnel, acts as an observer and student of the fire service. Is not allowed in an area deemed unstable or unsafe. Applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 18 with parental approval. Is allowed to go through training provided by the NYSOFPC.
Active Administrative Personnel:
